Licences and the App Store transition

Each licence covers one person on the Macs they own or control, including for work. Buy one or more licences for $11.99 USD each, with tax included or added according to your location; bulk purchases receive a separate key for each person.

Existing purchases

An existing Codeux or Mac App Store purchase remains subject to the terms agreed when it was purchased. The change of maintainership does not turn that purchase into a subscription or silently replace its agreement. New direct purchases from Blendbyte are governed by our terms and conditions.

Textual 7 is the version currently available to buy. Our announcement explains our plans for the next release, including the upgrade offer. Existing purchases retain their agreed upgrade rights.

Mac App Store owners

Textual stopped being sold through the Mac App Store in May 2024. If you already bought it there, check your App Store account's Purchases section while downloads remain available. We cannot guarantee continued App Store access to Textual 7.

Keep a backup of your installed Mac App Store copy, including the purchase receipt stored inside the app, and back up your preferences separately. Do not delete your working copy to troubleshoot a receipt problem. A backup preserves the evidence you have, but does not guarantee receipt validation on a different Mac.

We are exploring a way for Mac App Store owners to move to the standalone version. Migration is not currently available through our licensing service, and eligibility and timing are still undecided. We have not announced a Textual 8 upgrade offer for Mac App Store purchases; any rights agreed when you purchased remain unchanged.

The former standalone app included a Manage license… → Request License workflow for converting an App Store purchase into a standalone key. It checked the App Store receipt, then delivered a key by email. The complete original conversion guide preserves that historical workflow and its screenshots, rather than instructions for a currently available conversion service.

That workflow depends on the former licensing services. If conversion, activation, or recovery fails, contact us with your version, where you purchased it, and the exact error. Do not repeatedly delete working installations or send passwords, payment-card details, or your full licence key in a public chat.

Recovering a licence

Look for your purchase or licence email first, and check spam folders if you have just requested delivery. Where your copy offers Recover Lost License, the result depends on the licensing service associated with that copy. A receipt or purchase email can help us understand your situation when recovery does not work.

New purchases use our Paddle checkout, and licence keys arrive by email after payment is confirmed. Paddle supplies the receipt and handles payment enquiries through Paddle buyer support. We do not require a website account.

Historical offers and agreements

The old free-upgrade dates, App Store promo-code offers, and Textual 6-to-7 discount instructions belong to their original period. They are preserved in the legacy library rather than presented as offers you can claim today.

The original Textual 7 Codeux agreement remains available for reference alongside the current Blendbyte terms.
