Current guidance: This announcement records the May 2024 departure from the Mac App Store. Its download and free-conversion assurances describe the former service. Continued App Store downloads are not guaranteed, and migration to standalone remains under consideration. Preserve your installed copy and receipt, and read current licensing guidance before making changes.

Original May 2024 announcement

As of May 2024, Textual is no longer available for sale in the Mac App Store. The only location in which it can be downloaded from and purchased is codeux.com. Those that already own Textual in the App Store can download it again at any time in the Purchases section of their account. An App Store purchase can also be converted to a license key free of charge to continue receiving updates.

The reason the App Store is no longer used comes down to one simple truth. It was a headache to use. Textual is a feature rich app. Updates for it are small and infrequent. When updates are made, it is much easier to publish them on codeux.com and be done with it.
