Disabling App Nap

Historical reference: the Enable App Nap hidden preference.

A reference from an earlier chapter

This material preserves the original Textual documentation and may describe older versions, former services, or superseded policies. It is not a statement of current availability or new Blendbyte commitments.

For current guidance: Troubleshooting a connection, ZNC, sleep, and staying connected.

Current guidance: Hidden preferences can change between releases; only change the one described here. For other ways to stay connected, see ZNC and staying connected.

App Nap is a feature of macOS that places inactive apps in a sleep state to reduce energy use. This behavior can cause Textual to disconnect from IRC when connected to low traffic networks.

This guide instructs you how to disable the use of App Nap in relation to Textual.

Instructions

  1. Open Textual's Help menu in the main menu (Command Shift Forward Slash)
  2. Move focus to the Advanced section of the Help menu
  3. Click the menu item labeled Hidden Preferences…
  4. In the window that appears, uncheck the preference labeled Enable App Nap.

Do not modify other preferences within this window unless instructed to do so.
