Textual's Roadmap

This knowledge base article lists features that have been approved to appear in an upcoming update.¹

Each feature has a colored box to the left of it which indicates its status.

The feature is planned but work on it has not started. The feature is being worked on. The feature has been completed and will appear in an upcoming update.

Buddy List

Besides notifications, Textual lacks a way for users to easily find out, at a glance, whether a friend is online or not. A dedicated window which shows the status of all friends saved in the Address Book would make a good feature.

Grouping Improvements

While Textual does support viewing multiple channels at once, the experience is very limited.

Listed below are some ways in which the experience can be improved.

• Add a way to assign a keyboard shortcut to a specific group, to select it.

• Add a way to limit keyboard navigation to the current group.

Inline Media Improvements

It would be ideal for Textual to support displaying any possible content inline with chat. In addition to images, this includes videos, tweets, Facebook posts, gists, and much, much more.

This feature should be developed in such a way that security is priority. Webpages should be loaded by a separate, always sandboxed process.

This feature should also be extensible so addons can be developed by the community.

Scripting Improvements

Scripts in Textual are only good for creating alias commands. A scripting interface which can respond to events and retrieve information on demand would make a good feature.

Other Features

• Add support for DCC CHAT.

• Add collapsable join, part, quit messages.

• Add preference to disable loading insecure links (“http://…“) in inline previews.

• Add preference to allow user to change CTCP VERSION response.

• Add a repeat command that can be used to repeat commands.

• Add a setqueryname command that can be used to reassign a query.

• Add a status bar button which can be used to manage Textual.

• Add an away indicator to queries.

• Add user specific context menu to the WebView of queries.

• Add user interface for adding custom CSS/JavaScript to style.

• Add support for 0x04 for hexadecimal color and 0x11 monospace text. (more info)

• Improve accessibility by allowing the text size of the server list and user list to be increased.

• Fix Textual freezing when performing Select All on large channels.

• Fix scrolling jumping to top of screen when loading history from previous session.
