Current guidance: This fix applied to the Mac App Store version on macOS High Sierra. The helper application is retained in the source archive but not republished here. Back up your preferences before changing them; see preferences and backups.
A change in macOS High Sierra causes the Mac App Store version of Textual to crash if you ever used a copy of the app downloaded from codeux.com (“the standalone version”).
This guide will instruct you how to fix this crash.
Fixing using Helper Application
To fix this crash, download the application linked below and run it. (The former helper download is retained in the source archive, not republished here.)
Fixing Manually
To fix this crash manually, replace the symbolic link at the following path with a copy of the file it is linked to.
~/Library/Group Containers/8482Q6EPL6.com.codeux.irc.textual/Library/Preferences/8482Q6EPL6.com.codeux.irc.textual.plist
After performing this action, a restart of your Mac is required, or you can kill the process named cfprefsd. The cfprefsd process is used by macOS to cache application preferences in memory.
